Ingvar says that karma is a process rather than a concept and exists not only in human beings but in all that exists: in nature, in atoms, in whatever you can think of. Is it possible to become free from karma? Or to relieve one’s fate? And what does this word originating from the ancient Indian philosophy even mean? It is rumored that karma can be changed, healed, annulled or brought to an end. There are also those who say that in the present era, no additional karma is created. The journal “Üks” will examine what is the truth behind this word which literally stands for “fate” or “action” in Sanskrit and is conceptually understood as the rule of cause and effect.
Karma does not think, and it does not watch over you. Being the law of cause and effect, karma itself is neutral. You do something, and it has consequences. Something happens and it has a cause. Human beings and the universe form part of the same larger whole where everything is interrelated and influences everything else. This is what has been said in a book. We are going to examine the matter with INGVAR VILLIDO, head of teachings at Lilleoru center.

You reap what you sow
“In the Estonian language, karma is expressed by the saying “You reap what you sow,” meaning that every action has a consequence. It seems weird to claim that there is no karma or that no additional karma is created, given that all the time we are doing something. Even if you are meditating in the emptiness, you are still doing something. We are continuously creating karma because it is impossible to be without doing anything. It is clearly the rule when you are a human being,” says Mr. Villido, who has been in dozens of Indian temples and ashrams and met with dozens of Indian holy men.
According to him, karma is a process rather than a concept and can be found not only in human beings but in all that exists: in nature, in atoms, in whatever you can think of. When we do something, we cause a change, and the object of any of our actions, ourselves included, is not quite the same afterwards. The law of karma is in operation both when a person takes a loan for buying something, thereby taking on a debt burden, and each emotional action. When pouring out your anger on someone, a change occurs both in the other person, your own inner world as well physiologically in your body.
“The law of cause and effect is not created by men, but discovered by wise men who lived in the territory of ancient India and the areas surrounding it… or even before their time.
It is as eternal and universal as the law of gravity. It is very difficult to say when and where the karma of each one of us came to be. In order to find an answer to this, every one of us should know where they started out from and began doing things,” Ingvar says, making the issue exciting.
According to Vedic astrology, karma is to a quite significant extent influenced by the nine planets. – Does this mean that I cannot do anything about it when the moment of my birth has determined the influence that these planets have on my destiny? – “It is indeed so, ” Villido replies. “The Vedic horoscope uses not solar, but the lunar calendar, and I can tell from my own experience that it is very precise. As their civilization is ancient, they have had time to work out various rituals for either reducing the negative influence of the planets or increasing the influence of creating good karma. It is evident, though, that these do not consist in staring towards the Saturn and telling it to just stop already. This is not the way it is done.”
Is the purpose of the rituals to influence my state towards a planet? – “No. The procedures of utmost complexity are actually not made for influencing the person, but the planet. This goes much further than just influencing them through space. Today’s science has not even discovered such astonishingly accurate technology yet. And what’s more, it is 100% operational!”
No escape from the family
But what about the family’s karma? Villido confirms that a child is born in the family as a blank page. The child does not remember, because he/she has no access to the information regarding previous lives, as his/her memory is blocked. The child is being taught according to the best of the family’s knowledge, and starting from a very early age, he/she is handed over the values and experience, or the “culture of the family”, as Ingvar calls it.
“When examining why a child is born to this specific family and not in some other, I was amazed to see how smartly it has been determined by the law of karma, using the principle of similarity. The family where the child is born in corresponds to the karmic result which has formed by the end of the previous life.
This already awaits him in his next life, because the karmic result of him and the respective family line are similar. Figuratively speaking, the child picks up his karma once again after being born, and continues his path from where he left off.”
But don’t we choose the family we will be born in, our mother and father ourselves, then? “No, no. This would signify free will, but it does not work. Only very few of us can make such choice consciously; these are the ones who have become free of karma and attained moksha. For example, the lamas in Tibet who say where they are going to be born again through reincarnation. But there are very few people like this on Earth.”
The choices of an ordinary person remain within the limits of his or her karma. And whether one likes it or not, there is no escape from one’s karma. Even the very reason for incarnation is karma, and rebirths continue until the person attains the state of awareness, which is to say, realizes his/her divine origin. It is the spirit, the person’s higher self and non-materialistic essence who incarnates.
When reborn, the memory of a person always comes along as well. This never changes, although in most cases one does not have access to it.
Is the soul – the essence that gives vitality to a person and replaces the spirit until the person has not yet become aware of him or herself – also reborn? Ingvar says he does not know that but believes that the soul is every time new.
Moksha, or “liberation” in Sanskrit, means becoming free of the endless cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth and the sufferings that go along with it. Siddhas have reached the state of moksha. Since the dawn of time, they have unbiasedly and independently studied the reality we are living in and the laws governing it, one of which is the law of karma.
According to a legend, the first Siddha, while being in the depths of the sea inside the stomach of a fish, overheard how god Shiva introduced the science of yoga to his wife Parvati. At present, it is believed that there are 1008 Siddhas. “All ancient knowledge has the work of those scientists as its source. They have created Sanskrit and Tamil languages and written the Vedas which describe the laws of nature. They have constructed temples which are not only in line with the directions of the compass but also with energies which we do not know yet today. Through dreams or insights, they have given people knowledge which also led to the start of the scientific-technological revolution in the West.
Intuition and insights are not something one can create on one’s own, instead, they have come or been given “from above”
“But who is the one who gives them? And what for?” Villido contemplates.
In India, the writings of the 18 Siddha Tradition have been preserved in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is known that by way of meditation, specific breathing techniques and other practices which have been kept a secret, those persons, mystics in the Western sense, have reached perfection, immortality, extraordinary powers, and superb knowledge. Moving through time and space and “reading” the vast knowledge contained therein presents no difficulties for them.
Among else, they have written historical records in the Tamil language on palm leaves and created the ancient Siddha medicine, which is even older than Ayurveda medicine. They have taught people how to feel the pulse, which Eastern medicine still uses for diagnosing illnesses today. In India, Siddhas have been the founders of the entire spiritual system, which was solely practical in the beginning but have turned more and more into a religion by now.
What about us, common folks?
The situation is not hopeless, though. Karma can be relieved and life made easier. It can be done already now. The easiest way to do this is by being ethical. – But what if the person lacks the sense of good and evil? – “Well, in that case, s/he’s got what s/he has. S/he would still need to learn ethics,” Ingvar notes. “Life itself figuratively teaches him how. In case you belligerently go against what comes into your life, it responds with even more aggression and belligerence. On the contrary, in case you respond with goodness, life also turns you its benevolent side. If you want to get rid of the people around you, then hurt them; if you want to gain friends, make good deeds,” Villido advises, and recalls an inspiring thought by Mother Teresa: in case you do good, then continue doing it without caring what other people think, because, in the end, it is a matter that remains only between you and God.
It is also possible to reduce karma, by stopping clinging to yesterday?
“Live in the present moment! When you are in the present moment, you see life as it really is. Things come and go. Do not imagine what does not exist. Do not indulge into fantasies, otherwise, you don’t want to be disappointed later,” is his advice. “When remembering the past, people bring it forward to the future, falsely believing that they are not creating the future they are imagining. I am not so sure if it’s merely a fantasy. A lot of creative power can be found in the world, both seen and unseen.”
As a result, some people have easier lives because of their better karma created during their entire journey. According to the law of conservation of energy, it is not possible that something came into being and then just vanished out of the blue forever – there is no such thing in nature. This is also why the karma of one’s previous life has a very powerful influence on one’s current life. By wisely choosing your actions – what to take up and what to leave aside, what and how to develop, you can also receive consequences that are under some control. “Of course it is much more complicated than that, as these activities are intertwined with all your other activities. It is not like, I wish to win the lottery, I buy the ticket and win right away,” says Villido.
Against this background, it seems as if someone has some sort of universal plan why we need to go through this reincarnation cycle all over and over again? – Ingvar agrees: “In the beginning, everything was absolutely perfect. Some say that God got bored or that God wanted to get to know himself from some other aspect, which is why he created parts of Himself that stood separate. Maybe it is exciting for Him, but for us, is still our life. At the same time…maybe it is also our task to discover the part of our inner world which is getting to know itself? The opinions are varied. At the same time, all substantial, authentic and objective things are actually quite simple.”
